October 5th, 2014
The Unitarian Universalist Meeting of South Berkshire planted a Peace Pole on October 5th as part of a dedication ceremony to celebrate the purchase of its church building in Housatonic, MA. Our congregation has been in existence for 19 years but we always had to rent space wherever we could find it. When the Congregational Church in Housatonic (a village of Great Barrington) sold their building to us this last June, their former minister Belle Fox Martin gave us a Peace Pole as a gift from one congregation to another. The church was built in 1894 in the heart of the town next to the library and is on the National Register of Historic Places. It will not only serve as a place for worship by the Unitarian community in the region, but it will remain a resource for the greater community as well. We are proud to be stewards of this historic building that now has a Peace Pole prominently installed next to our sign, a statement of our ideals and hopes for a more peaceful world.
