Sound Beach property owners celebrate 50 years of the Peace Pole Project, Long Island-USA
November 22, 2025
The Sound Beach Property Owners Association celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Peace Pole Project. Long Islanders gathered at the East Beach to support the positive influence the peace project has had both internationally and locally.

After World War II, Masahisa Goi founded the May Peace Prevail On Earth International organization, thus beginning the Peace Pole Project. The project is a global initiative that places outdoor monuments made of stone, metal or wooden posts that say May Peace Prevail On Earth in different languages on multiple sides. The project encourages individual peace, community peace and global peace through this simple, but powerful movement.
Peace Poles have been installed in every country in the world with over an estimated 250,000 across the globe, including the Himalayas, Antarctica and the International Space Station. These peace poles are meant to promote shared values and deeper cultural understanding and bring communities and individuals together.
In 2023 the SBPOA installed a Peace Pole at the East Beach entrance, on Shore Drive, overlooking Long Island Sound. Similar to the others around the world, the Long Island Peace Pole is inscribed with May Peace Prevail On Earth in eight different languages. The Rocky Point Rotary sponsored the installment and is currently working on a larger Corridor of Peace project that will link 10 communities along the corridor of routes 25 and 25A to promote peace.
Patrice Perreca, the Sound Beach Civic Association membership chair and a board member of the SBPOA, strongly supports Long Island’s recent movement to strengthen international peace. The Peace Pole embodies the motto “’Let there be peace on Earth’ — One of my favorite hymns,” Perreca said. “And the best line is ‘Let it begin with me.’”
The 50th anniversary celebration reinforced all these important ideas by once again promoting peace not just internationally, but also locally. The celebration focused on celebrating the past, while also planning ahead to create a better future.
