Peace Poles Take Shape in Queensland, Australia.

Every Peace Pole begins with an idea, but it comes to life through the hands of people who care.

At the Beenleigh District Men’s Shed in Queensland, Australia, Morrie Tuffin is putting the finishing touches on two handcrafted hexagonal Peace Poles. One will be installed at Daisy Hill State School on September 18.

The second project began with a simple family request. Rob Curtis’s great-niece asked if her school, Scoresby State School in Victoria, could have a Peace Pole. Rob contacted Bob Morris from the Rotary Club of Lysterfield Rowville, and with the support of a local Men’s Shed, the project has grown to include three Peace Poles for the school.

It is another wonderful example of how the Peace Pole movement continues to grow through Rotary clubs, schools, families, and volunteers working together. Every new installation begins with people who are willing to give their time, skills, and hearts to create something that will inspire others for years to come.

Before these Peace Poles are dedicated in schools and communities, they are first built with care, one piece at a time. Peace begins long before the ceremony. It begins with the people who choose to build it.
