On Tuesday morning, May 26, Rotarians from the Rotary Club of Franklin at Breakfast dedicated a Peace Pole at Aspen Grove Park, joined by Franklin’s Sister Cities as a way to honor their commitment to promoting peace.
The Peace Pole is part of an international movement to encourage peace and unity among nations. The pole at Aspen Grove Park displays the message “May Peace Prevail On Earth” in the four languages of the Sister Cities, which are: Caleton Place, Ontario, Canada; County Laois, Ireland; Bad Soden am Taunus, Germany; and Ciudad Rodrigo, Spain, as well as Franklin.
Rotarians promote peace through service projects, education, community engagement, international partnerships and more.

During the ceremony, president of the Rotary Club of Franklin at Breakfast Cliff Wilson shared a few words about peace—the idea that “peace begins with each one of us.”
He also highlighted the partnership between the rotary club, the Parks and Recreation Department, and Sister Cities.
“As we walk away from this place, we want to think about how this is just a remembrance that peace starts within, in this very, very peaceful park in this beautiful city called Franklin, and it starts with our own service, our own kindness, and the way we treat each and every one,” Wilson said.
Lisa Clayton, Parks director, said her department is thankful to the rotary clubs for their work in the community.
“I can’t brag enough about how important our Sister Cities have become and the relationships that have been created with all of our Sister Cities,” he began.
Moore also mentioned an initiative he helped spearhead, Unite Williamson, in an effort to connect neighbors to neighbors.
“This is really special,” he said of the Peace Pole. “Breakfast Rotary, thank you. Y’all are the bomb. I’m honored to be part of that club.”
Now the Peace Pole stands at Aspen Grove Park to remind the community that through connection, service and kindness, peace may prevail on earth.
