Peace Pole Dedicated at Haywood Community College, Waynesville, North Carolina, USA

September 14, 2025

Waynesville Rotary Club will dedicate a Peace Pole at Haywood Community College in conjunction with HCC’s 60th anniversary celebration kick-off from 2-5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, 2025

The striking steel sculpture is engraved with the timeless message “May Peace Prevail On Earth.” Internally lit, the Peace Pole radiates its message each evening from dusk until dawn on campus, serving as a reminder of hope and unity. It was designed by Brek Lanning, vice president of infrastructure operations and technology at HCC, who is also an architect.

The Centennial Peace Pole is a project of the Waynesville Rotary Club in conjunction with its own 100th anniversary year.

“We are honored to dedicate this Peace Pole as a lasting reminder of Waynesville Rotary’s mission to advance peace locally and globally,” said Rotary Club past president, Bronwen Talley-Coffey. “It not only marks our club’s centennial year but also offers a place for reflection and inspiration for generations to come.”

The Peace Pole is one of six pieces included in HCC’s new Art Walk, commemorating the 60th anniversary of the college.
