Osaka, Japan, Expo World Peace Flag Ceremony 2025

August 23, 2025

The first World Expo, at the time called the World’s Fair, took place in London in 1981.  Since then the Expo has traveled every continent to over 100 cities worldwide.  The first Expo in Asia was hosted in Osaka, Japan in 1970 followed by the Aichi Expo in 2005.  Twenty years later, the 2025 Osaka Expo is being hosted for a six months between the period of April 13th and October 13th.

World Expo is an event that brings together people and innovations from around the world in an effort to address issues facing humankind on a global scale. Among multiple goals, Expo 2025 aims to contribute to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

On August 23rd, May Peace Prevail On Earth International in collaboration with the Goi Peace Foundation presented a World Peace Flag Ceremony at the Osaka Expo on this auspicious occasion. The exquisitely presented Flag Ceremony was accompanied by the performance of Humming for Peace – Yukie Kakubari and the piano of Yuichi Koematsu.  The message of peace was sent to each region and country of the world through a dramatic video presentation of the cultures, traditions and natural landscapes of the world.  Flag cards representing the nations of the world was presented and placed around a 6 sided Peace Pole in the shape of a global peace mandala.  The 6 sided Peace Pole was stuffed earlier by peace messages written by attendants of the Expo.

Hundreds of voices joined the chorus of May Peace Prevail On Earth that echoes throughout the Expo grounds.  In October, we return to present a Peace Pole to the United Nations Pavilion in support of the Sustainable Development Goals.
