Peace Pole dedicated in memory of Boardman Kiwanis Club member, Ohio, USA

The Peace Pole was dedicated in honor and memory of Charles “Chuck” Whitman, a long-time active member of the Boardman-Youngstown Kiwanis Club before his death on February 20 of this year.

Boardman and Youngstown and Boardman Members of the community and the Boardman-Youngstown Kiwanis Club gathered at the YMCA in Downtown Youngstown to dedicate a Peace Pole.

The dedication took place on Friday, October 24, 2025, at noon.

A photo depicting the Peace Pole shows a main message: “May Peace Prevail On Earth”.

The Peace Pole was dedicated in honor and memory of Charles “Chuck” Whitman of Boardman, a long-time active member of the Boardman-Youngstown Kiwanis Club before his death on February 20 of this year.

Whitman, according to information according to his obituary, was born in 1928 in Youngstown.

Throughout his life, he was not only involved in the Boardman-Youngstown Kiwanis Club for over 48 years, but also as a teacher at Boardman High School for five years.

He also served at Youngstown State University in Career Services before being promoted to Director of Career Planning and Placement following the retirement of Mary Smith. He remained in this position until his own retirement.

According to the release outlining the dedication event, Whitman served as Chairman for several Boardman-Youngstown Kiwanis Club events.

Additionally, he also served as Club President and District Lieutenant Governor.

Whitman also received the Valley Legacy Award for Outstanding Senior, recognizing his years of community service.

The Peace Pole, according to the release, signifies Whitman’s dedication and commitment to the Mahoning Valley.
