Peace Pole in Riverview Park, Gouverneur, NY-USA

August 2nd, 2009

Girl Scouts from Thousand Islands Troop #340 received bronze medals on Sunday.  It is the highest honor a junior Girl Scout can receive. The Scouts have spent this year learning about community.  This knowledge inspired them to try to see the power in action and try to unite their community in a celebration. One voice, one spirit is the message that can continue to empower us to live in a positive fashion.

We were learning about the power of one, the power of a team and the power of community, “says Girls Scout, Andromeda Elliot.  “We don’t want wars and everything.  We want peace, “says Girl Scout, Lee Ann Berry.

Troop #340 sold Girls Scout cookies and used the money to buy a Peace Pole for Gouverneur.  On August 2nd, The Peace Pole was donated in a world peace ceremony at Riverview Park in the hope of uniting hearts in prayer for peace on earth and to dedicate a Peace Pole to Gouverneur as a symbol linking people of all faiths. The message and prayer, May Peace Prevail On Earth is placed on all fours sides of the Peace Pole in English, French, Italian and Spanish.  The Peace Pole acts as a bridge, reminding us of peace for all.  May it be a reminder for you!
