The Rotary Club of Pittsford held a special dedication ceremony on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, to honor Ryan Realbuto, a Pittsford native who was fatally shot in Washington, D.C., last year.

Pittsford, N.Y. — The Rotary Club of Pittsford held a special ceremony to honor Ryan Realbuto, a Pittsford native who was fatally shot in Washington, D.C., last year.
A peace pole was planted in his memory, serving as a monument to inspire unity with the inscription, “May Peace Prevail on Earth.”

Ryan Realbuto, 23, was returning from a church group event when he was shot and killed in what appeared to be a robbery.
He had been an active member of the Rotary-sponsored Interact Club at Pittsford Mendon High School, joining as a freshman and serving on the leadership team for three years.

“Ryan was all about peace. He respected all people. We all want to live in a culture of hope and peace,” said Janet Realbuto, Ryan’s mother. “No parent should bury a child. No brother should have to partake in monumental events without his brother there to share them.”
No arrests have been made in connection with Ryan’s death.

More than 250,000 Peace Poles are planted worldwide.
