Century Students Partner with Hillsboro Rotary to Install Peace Pole, Hillsboro, Oregon, USA

May 21, 2025

After a lesson with their social studies teacher, Mr. Trosclair, Century High School sophomores Taylen Tippetts and Yafa Obeidi felt inspired to install a Peace Pole at their school. Peace Poles are international monuments that display the message “May Peace Prevail on Earth” in the language of the country where it is placed; they are one of the ways Rotary International furthers its goal of building a culture of peace throughout the world.

The students reached out to the Hillsboro Rotary Club to inquire about partnership and funding support, to which the club graciously agreed. Century’s Peace Pole is now located in the north courtyard of the school. It is four-sided, with the message displayed in English, Spanish, Vietnamese, and Somali – the top four languages spoken at Century.

This project highlights the amazing passion our students have in creating safe and inclusive environments in our schools, as well as our wonderful partnership with the Hillsboro Rotary Club!
