Over the weekend, one of our Peace Poles was placed on our parish& school grounds (St. Cyril of Jerusalem Church & School) in honor of Aly Panichi.
Our priest, Fr. Mac, blessed the Peace Pole with me, my Mom, and my husband James in attendance. We have already started to see many people walking up to it and smiling! Lots of questions about what the Peace Pole is and so many happy to see it placed there (especially the week that Pope Francis was on US soil). As one of Aly’s songs was the Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi (“Make Me a Channel of Your Peace”), the Peace Pole being planted while the Pope was here and leading into Aly’s birthday, we look toward any sign that Aly is watching over all of us…we saw a little of that in these past few days.
I would trade anything to be celebrating my sister’s birthday with her tomorrow. It’s a bittersweet honor to have this Peace Pole placed for generations to come at our parish home & my kids’ school for all to see.
May Peace Prevail on Earth.
