Peace Poles in Syria and Doenrade

November-2008

Last year I was in Syria and to my great surprise and joy I saw a Peace Pole in the desert in Palmyra. Very special place!

Palmyra was in ancient times an important city of central Syria, located in an oasis 215 km northeast of Damascus. It has long been a vital caravan city for travelers crossing the Syrian Desert and was known as the Bride of the Desert

This summer we planted a Peace Pole in our small village Doenrade in Limburg in the south of The Netherlands. The pole was planted at the church-plaza, right in front of the old rectory were we live. The pastor (priest) blessed the Peace Pole and the statue of Maria that is next to it.
Sincerely,
