Ballina Mayor Sharon Cadwallader and Rotary District 9640 Governor John Oomen were recently in Ballina, New South Wales, for the dedication of a new Peace Pole at Ballina RSL Memorial Park. The event, attended by local leaders and Rotary representatives, took place on February 10-14, 2026.

The Rotary Satellite Club of Ballina Lifestyle has partnered with Ballina RSL for its new Peace Pole project.
A Peace Pole has been unveiled at Ballina RSL Memorial Park to signify communities’ ongoing efforts in a global initiative promoting peace, inclusion and remembrance.
The unveiling ceremony was hosted by the Rotary Satellite Club of Ballina Lifestyle in partnership with Ballina RSL and was attended by local leaders, rotary members and community representatives.
The four-sided Peace Pole features the message May Peace Prevail On Earth inscribed in English, Bundjalung, Māori, French and Braille.
The language selection was made in collaboration with the Ballina RSL Sub-Branch and reflects the region’s cultural heritage, commitment to accessibility and its strong connection to remembrance and the Anzac legacy.
Ballina RSL Club chief executive Guy Diven said the Peace Pole reflected the shared values of the RSL and the broader Ballina community.
“This Peace Pole represents respect for all cultures, care for community, and remembrance of those who have served,” he said.
“It is a lasting symbol of our region’s identity and our ongoing commitment to peace.”
Peace Poles were first introduced in 1955, in Japan as Peace movement.
More than 250,000 Peace Poles have been installed worldwide since then.
Ballina joins a global network of communities promoting peace and cultural understanding.
Ballina mayor Sharon Cadwallader, Rotary district governor John Oomen, and RSL sub-branch vice-president Dick Wills were among the speakers at the ceremony.
“This is a place to remember those who served, and it reminds us that peace is never accidental,” Cr Cadwallader said.
“It is precious and something we must actively protect, a peace pole speaks to our hope for the future.”
