We celebrated the International Day of Peace as a class and together we sang the song, “Light a Candle for Peace.” We read a book about Peace and then participated in a community activity planting flowers and watering the flowers around our newly planted Peace Pole.
We learned of a Peace Pole from the previous Montessori school we taught and worked at Westminster School where peace education was a vital role in their teachings as well.

Our small Montessori program has been wishing and hoping to plant a Peace Pole outside of our school for several years. We are located within Wesley United Methodists church building on the edge of Oklahoma City Universities campus. While attending an International Day of Peace celebration on the campus we shared with a few professors and university employees how we have written grants and have been wishing for a Peace Pole. One of them recognized the Peace Pole and said they actually had one in a closet on campus and offered to donate it to us. We were thrilled and immediately put plans in place to plant the pole. We have shared pictures with the university and have planted it in a space where the students can walk a short distance from the university to enjoy it too.
May Peace Prevail on Earth!
