The Peace Pole is a powerful symbol for the consciousness of inner peace and engagement in peaceful actions in the outer world – a space we can all hold no matter what is going on in the world. On the 2025 Unity World Day of Prayer (September 10, 2025) the congregation at Unity in the Olympics Church in Port Angeles Washington, planted two Peace Poles in front of the church building. One was the official “May Peace Prevail On Earth” Peace Pole with four languages – English, Spanish, Chinese and Polish. The other Peace Pole was carved in the Salish language of the Pacific Northwest First Nations Elwha people. Their carved message reads “Unity, Inner Peace and World Peace”. That Peace Pole honors the Peace traditions of the Elwha, the Strong People, who have been the stewards of this land for thousands of years.

We also came together with the Interfaith Community and the Center for Spiritual Living. We shared the history of the Peace Poles movement, sang Peace songs, read poetry and prayed for Peace. We celebrated the planting of the seeds of Peace on Earth and in our Hearts by surrounding the Peace Poles with lighted candles and blessing these symbols with our “Let there be Peace on Earth” song. We ended with delicious refreshments and time to get to know each other. Peace begins in friendship and shared purpose.

“World peace must develop from inner peace. Peace is not just the mere absence of violence. Peace is, I think, the manifestation of human compassion.” His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama
