Paul Sladkus of Good News Broadcast organized a human peace sign and Peace Day Party in New York’s Times Square on September 21, 2013, the UN International Day of Peace.
Sladkus began by placing in the center of Duffy Square at 46th Street a Peace Pole that had been decorated by international students at the UN observance of the International Day of Peace on Wednesday, September 18th with “May Peace Prevail on Earth” in many of the world’s languages. He then invited people – including tourists from around the world who were passing by – to each take a flag of one of the world’s nations and stand along the outlined peace sign to await the Minute of Silence at 12 noon.
At the stroke of noon, about 100 people raised the flags in silence for one minute – quite a unique event in itself for the heart of New York City. Following the silence, everyone said, “May Peace Prevail on Earth” three times, waving the flags. Then the Peace Party began, as all sang along with a series of uplifting songs from Frank Sinatra singing “High Hopes” to John Lennon’s “Imagine” to “Tomorrow” from the show, “Annie.”
Paul Sladkus ended the event by interviewing a number of the participants on camera, including Deborah Moldow of the World Peace Prayer Society. Videos of this historic event can be seen on www.goodnewsplanet.com.
In addition, the NASDAQ electronic sign on 43rd Street in Times Square displayed the UN’s Education for Peace poster at 12 noon on the International Day of Peace!
