SEEDS FOR PEACE FLAG CEREMONY – New York City – USA

May 19th, 2012

The “Seeds for Peace” leadership conference, sponsored by the Universal Peace Federation, took place in New York City on May 19, 2012 to benefit the Vigil for International Peace and Ecology. The Vigil is organized by UN staff member Susana Bastaricca and held annually in Central Park on the weekend of the UN International Day of Peace. Susana, who always invites the World Peace Prayer Society to bring a World Peace Flag Ceremony to be a highlight of the Vigil, asked WPPS to perform the same ceremony at the benefit.

The event included interfaith representatives, discussions on global cooperation, a celebration of the global family, and colorful entertainment by multi-cultural singers and dancers. Deborah Moldow, WPPS UN Representative, led the Flag Ceremony with about 60-70 enthusiastic participants from many countries. Holding the Earth Flag was Native American Chief Standing Bear. After everyone had prayed with great sincerity for peace in all countries, baritone Sam Lackey sang his moving composition, “Thank You for Peace.”
