Peace Pole at Dutchess County Interfaith Council Music Festival Wappingers Falls, NY, USA

June 6th, 2010

Peace Pole at the Music Festival at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Wappingers Falls, NY on June 6th, 2010. The people in the photograph from left to right are: Safiyyah Saffir, an intern serving on a volunteer basis with the Dutchess County Interfaith Council (DCIC), Theresa Giovanniello, the current President of the Board of DCIC, and Muriel Horowitz, a board member from Temple Beth-El in Poughkeepsie, NY. Muriel also performed on the program as a story teller, telling a story along with a wordless song (called a niggunin or niggun in Hebrew).

It was an afternoon of terrific music and an experience of uniting people of many faiths under one roof in the spirit of true peace and harmony. Appearing on the Program were representives from the Buddhist, Catholic, Hindu, Jewish, Baha’i, Baptist, Presbyterian, Episcopal, and Methodist faith traditions. There were dancers and singers both adult and children as well as young drummers from the Hindu Samaj in addition to a recorder ensemble, a festival organist and a multifaith choir.
